Celebrating One Year With Our Inexpensive Internet Mattress

December 2, 2019

It was exactly one year ago this week that our inexpensive internet mattress arrived via free delivery on our front doorstep. My husband and I had been in the market for a mattress for a couple of years before we actively started shopping. We started at a local mattress store and fell victim to sticker shock. So we turned to the internet and took a leap of faith. Now, we’re celebrating one full year with our inexpensive internet mattress and couldn’t be happier. This is our story.

How We Found Our Internet Mattress

After stopping at a local mattress store and going through their analysis to match us with a mattress, my husband and I were disgusted to discover we were “matched” with one of the most expensive memory foam mattresses in the store. I mean, yeah, we were both waking up sore with lower back pain but was the solution really a $3,000 mattress? Oh, plus $100 for delivery.

We hurriedly left the store stating that we needed to think it over. And think it over we did. We thought how in the world we could acquire a quality memory foam mattress without forking over thousands of hard-earned dollars.

Then, it hit me. I remembered reading how the Frugalwoods purchased a mattress from the internet and went about searching out that article. Now I know if the Frugalwoods are suggesting a purchase, it has been researched to the hilt and must be the real deal.

We moved forward with our own research and started scouring the internet and Amazon for reviews. And let me tell you, the reviews blew us away. As of this writing, the Lucid memory foam mattress has a 4.1 out of 5 stars rating on Amazon with a total of 2,759. If that doesn’t impress you, I don’t know what will.

The only negatives I saw were some people complaining about a factory smell the mattress had upon unwrapping that faded away after a few days. We weren’t deterred by those sporadic reviews and went ahead with our own inexpensive Lucid mattress purchase from the internet for a mere $345.99! We opted for a queen-size, 12-inch, medium-feel memory foam mattress without casing (that’s our affiliate link) and saved thousands of dollars in the process.

We figured, even if the mattress only lasted a year or two, it would still be worth the expense based on the prices we saw in the big box store.

Celebrating One Year With Our Inexpensive Internet Mattress

I must say, I was a bit skeptical that a foam mattress might be hot or wouldn’t hold up and eventually develop imprints from where we sleep. Well, I was wrong on both accounts.

Our internet mattress (our affiliate link 🙂 arrived exactly one year ago this past week and it feels the same as it did the day we unwrapped it and watched it expand into its luxurious fullness. Oh, and just in case you’re wondering, we didn’t experience that factory smell that some reviews complained about. That issue must’ve been addressed before we ordered ours.

We care for our mattress by turning it once per month, just like we did our regular spring mattress.

Just like I mentioned in the first article I wrote about our mattress 3 months post-purchase, it is the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on. And my husband seconds that notion.

Things To Consider If You’re Thinking About Buying An Internet Mattress

If you’ve never had a memory foam mattress before, I will say that it takes some getting used to. Granted, it didn’t take us long to get used to it (maybe a week or two), but it might take you a little longer.

Some people worry about foam mattresses being hot compared to regular mattresses, I can say that my husband and I have not experienced that with our Lucid memory foam mattress. This is likely due to the 3 inches of gel-infused memory foam that is meant to control temperature.

Lucid sells this mattress in various flavors in terms of size, depth, gel-infused and even one with a spring-loaded layer. So, there’s bound to be one that fits your needs.

Have you ever purchased a mattress over the internet before? If so, how was your experience?

    • I totally agree with you. It has been one of the best purchases we have ever made. In fact, I’m planning to purchase one for our daughter and one for our guest room in the upcoming year.

  • We have the 6in full mattress in our guest room. We want to get a queen size for our bedroom. My question is, the 6in is very firm, which we like, if I get the 8 or 10 in will it be squishy? Or will the spots when you sleep get very deep and hard to move from? The 6in is not hard to move while sleeping and you don’t go down much. Thanks! My husband and I are two fairly small people.

    • Hi Kathryn,
My husband and I bought the 12″ medium-firm mattress. I would not say it’s squishy at all. We also don’t go down much when we sleep on it. In hindsight, the 12″ depth was more than the necessary thickness. If I had to do it over again, I’d probably be good with the 8″ or 10″. I’m not sure I’d go for the 6″ for an everyday mattress, but then again, it might last just as long as the others. We’re at 1 and a half years now and we’re just as happy as we were the first night we slept on it. Good luck with your purchase!
