Friday Favorites

Ah, the end of the week is upon us and I have decided to take the blogging day off and share a few of my favorites that I found floating around the financial blogosphere this week. And without further ado, here we go.

Retirement: Your Permanent Vacation

power-of-lifeJacob Merkley, husband, father, snowboarder, and founder of, Power Over Life, writes motivational and informative articles that help people take control of their lives. One such article that caught my eye this week was Retirement: Your Permanent Vacation. I mean how couldn’t that title grab my attention? After reading it, I realized the article was power-packed full of great financial information that my readers might enjoy…especially those readers just starting out or looking for online resources to get their financial lives in order. If this sounds interesting, go check it out!

Why My Savings Rate Is So High…

we-only-get-paid-flightMiss Mazuma is a flight attendant who loves to travel (good thing!) blazing a trail toward financial independence with her dog, Bubba, and a 75% savings rate! If that isn’t impressive, I don’t know what is.

Miss Mazuma is proof that you don’t need to be half of a power couple making 200k+ per year to have a savings rate that knocks your socks off. If you think you might like to read about how she’s doing it, go check it out!

Grilling Experiment

I also stumbled across an article on Purple Sweatpants -such a cool name- about fostering community in our neighborhoods by making small changes.

Ernie at Purple Sweatpants is a self-proclaimed boy band reject who now blogs about his town, personal finance, and minimalism. WE LOVE THIS. In this article, he talks about his eye-opening experience with city planning and how he’s encouraging community by doing the simplest of all things…rolling his grill to the front of his house so he can interact with his neighbors. Genius. If this feel-good article sounds like it’s your alley, go check it out!

And there you have it! Now go enjoy some of the articles that I deemed to be share-worthy. 🙂 Virtual high-five to Power Over Life, Miss Mazuma, and Purple Sweatpants!

Thanks for including me, MMM!! That post you mentioned was a quite popular yet I had no idea how strange my job is until someone is intrigued by it. It’s not all glitz and glam bouncing around the country but it sure helps to pay the bills! 😉

I love love love the idea of front yard grilling. There was a news story on a Chicago neighborhood and how they installed benches off the sidewalks of peoples front yards. The idea was to get the community out front so the kids could play and all the neighbors could chat without a fence in between them. The people they interviewed were so happy – some had lived on the block for years and never met the neighbors a few doors down. What a difference a little change can make. I have to go check out Purple Sweatpants now – my favorite color and article of clothing combined – I can’t go wrong!!

You’re welcome! It was a great post. It definitely sounds like a cool job, but I’m sure it can also be exhausting. And I never knew about the system for getting paid, as far as ground vs in-flight hours. Wow.

Yeah, I loved the grilling out front article. I really feel the world could be a much friendlier place if we would all take little steps like that. It seems so simple yet somehow no one seems to make the effort. 🙂

    Cool list, MMM!

Always interesting to see other great articles out there in the blogosphere and find new bloggers to read.

Would you look at that – there I am!! Thanks so much for the mention Mrs. MMM – I really appreciate it!

Of course! It’s a cool concept. If we all did stuff like grill out front instead of hiding in the backyard the world would be a much friendlier place 🙂
